Grants Available from the Arkansas Department of Higher Education
Students of Arkansas are well catered for in terms of student financial aid. On top of the federal grants that many Arkansas college goers receive, the state governments Department of Higher Education hand out additional help to a variety for students that need financial assistance.

If you are a resident attending an in-state private or public college, university technical / vocational school see if you can apply for one or several of the Arkansas state-based grants below.

Arkansas Minority Student Grants

Minority students residing in the state of Arkansas who plan on studying a career in teaching and other education related fields of study could recieve up to $1,000 from the Arkansas Freshman/Sophomore Minority Grant program.

The grant program applies to minority students of African American, Asian, Mexican American, Hispanic and Puerto Rican ethnicities that have residence in Arkansas. To be eligible applicants must be attending an approved private or public college or university and will be required to sign a statement of interest in teaching. To apply for minority college grants offered through this program students should contact the Arkansas Department of Education office or the Dean of Students on the campus that they wish to attend.

Grants for Health and Medicine Related Studies

Resident students who wish to study a professional or graduate health / medical program unavailable in the state of Arkansas can receive a grant to attend certain out-of-state accredited education institutions. The Arkansas Health Education Grant Program (ARHEG) provides health and medicine related study grants up to $24,400 to study dentistry, optometry, veterinary medicine, podiatric medicine, chiropractic medicine and osteopathic medicine. The grant award is issued to students who demonstrate financial need and is for use in any academic year of study although it is unrenewable. Student Assistance Program

$600 may not seem like a large amount of money but any help to pay for college is a bonus. If you are a resident of Arkansas attending a full-time college or university program you could receive a one-time grant of $600 towards your education in either freshman, sophomore, junior or senior years from the Arkansas Student Assistance Grant Program. The grant is not renewable as it is only available for one academic year and is accessed through the Arkansas Department of Higher Education.

Grants for Teaching Students and Administrators

Arkansas teachers, administrators and student teachers can apply for a reimbursement grant for out-of-pocket expenses incurred whilst attending college. The money covers up to six college credit hours per year to the maximum value of $3000. The program is known by many as the “Arkansas Teacher and Administrator Grant Program“, but its official name is the “Teacher Opportunity Program (TOP)”. The annual application deadline is June 1st of each year and to apply for the teaching grant applicants must meet certain criteria.
