Free Grants for Nursing Students
If you wish to embark on a career in nursing, you have a wealth of grant opportunities at your disposal to reduce the cost of nursing school education. College grants for nursing students are available through several financial aid and organization sources in the U.S. to help fund your way right through nursing college straight into employment.
Nursing has always remained an underrepresented profession in the United States for one simple reason, “High Demand”. Simply put, there are never enough staff resources available to tend to the high demand of nursing care (especially in medically underserved regions of the country). Therefore, every year more and more grant incentives and financial aid opportunities are created in an attempt to fill these gaps and meet the ever-increasing need for professional nurses to enter into the health care systems. Nursing grant and scholarship programs focus also on minority students, which means women and students from ethnic minority groups such as African American, Hispanic and Latino, Asian and Native / Indian American can apply for the surfeit of nursing orientated college grants and financial aid incentives.
Where do Nursing Education Grants come from?
Nursing grants are available from a both public and privates sources. The good news is that you can actually qualify for nursing grants and scholarships that pay the complete cost of tuition, provide a monthly subsidy and money to cover the cost of student accommodation. Although these opportunities are not rare and difficult to access, there are obviously terms, conditions and agreements that you will be obliged to commit to during and after your studies in order to qualify.
Nursing students that wish to focus on a particular professional field of study such as anesthesia, cancer, geriatrics and emergency nursing etc, may qualify to apply for specialist grants and scholarships provided by private organizations and associations. However, the most common providers of grants and financial aid for students who wish to attend a nursing college and enter into a professional healthcare career come from the following sources.
Federal Nursing Grant Programs
The federal government invests heavily in nursing each year, subsidizing the majority of nursing students’ education through grant incentive programs. These grants are purposely to encourage both women and men to enter nursing school and college programs from all backgrounds, including grants for minority, disadvantaged and single parents / moms. More information about federal programs available to student nurses can be viewed in the Federal Nursing Grants page.
State Funded Grants for Nursing School
The majority of U.S. states provide a selection of nursing student grants in order to fill the demands that the state and regional healthcare organizations are burdened with each year. These financial aid opportunities are often awarded to students who agree to undertake a period of employment in a state healthcare institution after completing their studies. It’s not unusual for students to receive a full-ride education package in return for a work commitment after graduating from nursing school. More information about these programs is available in the State Nursing Grants page.
